Documents: Documents can be created by users from their available suite of templates. Documents are the individual pieces of collateral that live inside a project folder e.g. brochures, web ads, signage, business cards, social media tiles etc. These documents can be edited based on the inputs available in that template. Documents may or may not require approval in order to be exported and downloaded, shared or printed.
This article will provide the user with an understanding of how to edit a document using the different type of inputs.
What are inputs?
An Input is a globally accessible tag that gives authors the ability to populate an Outfit document with content. There are various types of inputs that can be utilised to help make documents as customisable, or as stringent as necessary.
Please refer to this article for more context.
How to use inputs to edit documents
The document editing screen displays the inputs available to you on the left side, and the preview of your document(s) on the right. Click one of the inputs in the side bar that you wish to change to edit its value.
Please find the instructions on how to edit each type of input below:
Text inputs allows you to edit text fields on your document.
An editor field will show after selecting a text input. The editor will allow you to type alphanumerical characters just like a word editor and in some cases allows you to format the text.
Things like font, location, and font size will be locked down to match your brand guidelines, meaning all you need to do is add in your content and you are good to go!
If you add too much text into an input, it will prompt you to remove some or adjust your content with an overset warning.
Number inputs allows you to configure elements using a numeric value which are set as either a range slider or a field value. The slider will let you choose a value from a restricted range by clicking and dragging the slider from one end point to the other and the field value lets you enter a number value.
An image input allows you to add/replace an image (or in some cases logo) into a document. You can use the reposition tool to adjust the position of your image, as well as crop the image. The following actions can be done to assist in utilising the reposition tool:
- Move the crop box or image around
- Use the zoom in and out buttons found on the top right-hand corner of the tool
- Click and drag any corner of the crop box to increase or decrease its size
Click Apply to save the updates you have made.
Choice inputs enables you to select an option from a predefined set of values. Click the input to see the options available.
Spreadsheet inputs allows you to create repeatable sections of content.
Click the input and it will take you to an Excel looking spreadsheet where you can enter alpha-numeric values. Use the column headers as guides to understand the values that you need enter.
You can choose to upload a CSV instead of using the platform to enter the values.
